Why Kika?

In previous years we took action for KWF ( with great success! ). Because there are now 3 DSV babies, we thought it would be fun to raise money for Kika this year.

"Almost 600 children in the Netherlands get cancer every year. 81% of these children now survive the first five years after diagnosis. Partly thanks to the research that KiKa finances. Because about 20 years ago this was still around 72%. Clear proof that research really helps and a 100% chance of recovery is getting closer.

These studies that KiKa invests in focus on various themes. Think of better medicines, less pain during treatments, a greater chance of recovery and a higher quality of life for patients, also after treatment. Kika also provides information about childhood cancer. KiKa is the only charity in the Netherlands that invests in research that specifically focuses on all forms of childhood cancer."

Cancer affects us all

Cancer affects us all. KWF and Kika are also important and special organizations for us. Marieke has a BRCA1 mutation, which means that she had a 60-80% chance of getting breast cancer. Yes, she had, because in 2018 she had her breasts amputated preventively (and reconstructed using the DIEP flap method). She also has a 35-45% chance of getting ovarian cancer. Fortunately, she is being treated very well for this at the Radboud UMC.

Fortunately, Marieke knows that she has the BRCA1 mutation and can therefore take action, but still 1 in 3 people in the Netherlands is diagnosed with cancer and almost 600 children in the Netherlands are diagnosed with cancer every year. That is why we are taking action to raise money for cancer research.

Sponsor us and help fund important cancer research. Thank you!
